If I didn't think I'd be horribly in the way, I'd go for The Empty House because I love the reunion scene so very much. Otherwise The Hound of the Baskervilles, again for the reunion, Watson's look of surprise and the 'Oh my word! It's you!' moments. And the danger of tracking a fierce beast down (though come to think of it, I quite like dogs...) as well as the rugged beauty of Dartmoor.

I will visit Dartmoor one day - the description of it in HOUN had made me desperate to see it for myself.
Psmith - the 'P' is entirely silent. As in ptarmigan.

aarrrgghh.....those are both wonderful adventures...how could one choose between them?

*is still trying to decide what adventure I'd choose....*

This is an exceedingly interesting question.

Maybe...the Norwood Builder? No way I'd choose something too dangerous or frightening, lest I embarrass myself before the great detective.

But think of the amazement when Holmes flushes the perp out of the woodwork!

Assuming, of course, that you mean for us to tag along without knowing how the story ends.

The Devil's Foot case.

Free trip to Cornwall!

I'd stay far away while he was testing the effects of the devil's foot root, though.

Wow brilliant thread BSB!

I think I'd have to go with 'Sign of Four' simply for the thrilling boat chase down the Thames. Plus I'd get plenty of exercise running after Toby! The only downside is if I got hit with one of Tonga's darts!

Ooh interesting idea BakerStreetBabe.

I think I'm more familiar with the Granada series than the Canon so on that basis I choose Six Naploeons. Everybody looks like there having so much fun!!

I'd love to be sitting beside that roaring fire with Holmes, Watson and Lestrade, alternately chuckling at all the witty asides and being in absolute awe of the detectives razor sharp deductions.

Wouldn't it have been fantastic to be party to H & W's little gag at the expense of Lestrade as he sneakily leafs through Holmes' folder. laugh.gif

And to actually be present at the end to see Holmes unravel such a knotty set of circumstances with such panache and then witness his wonderfully moving reaction to Lestrade's heartfelt compliment...oh yes SIX all the way for me. smile.gif

This is a brilliant thread!

My first instinct was The Blue Carbuncle, a traipse around London with the lads, witnessing good-natured Holmes and the little play acting over the town bred goose question, plus the intensity of the confrontation with Ryder is magnificent.

But on reflection, I may have to go with the Musgrave Ritual. It's such a fun bit of sleuthing (until Brunton turns up dead, but nevermind about that) and I'd love to stay at Hurlstone with Holmes and Watson! biggrin.gif

Decisions, decisions!

It's really hard to choose from so many great stories. Maybe I'll choose "The Red-headed League".

CHAS or SCAN. And in SCAN I'll keep hinting at Holmes that he's getting a bit too sure of himself, but he won't take the hint, and then I'll get to see Embarrassed!Holmes, which would be awesome. Fooled by two women in one case...ouch.

As I've said before on the board I've fooled around with the idea of writing Holmes's half-sister, and I've thought about re-writing a couple of the classic cases from her perspective, SCAN being the most obvious choice. So I've actually thought about this question a little bit. It's so much fun to think about...*sigh*

With an eye toward the Granada series, I'd pick The Illustrious Client. That's one episode I really feel the danger inherent in what Holmes does for a living. I would hope some of his courage would rub off on me.

And taking care of the injured Holmes wouldn't be too bad, either. wink.gif

Love all the responses, guys!

Urgh...it is SOO very hard to choose, but my idea was that we DIDN'T know how the stories would end...and we'd be able to stand with Watson and gape at the Master's genius.

One adventure I might like to tag along with, would be GREE; just to meet Mycroft and see for myself the interaction between the brothers...
And....probably the 3GARR, just to see the depth of loyalty and love that lay behind Holmes' 'cold mask' when Watson gets shot.
Oh...there are so many more! His Last Bow...to see Holmes whup that German spy, stand with him and Watson for, 'one last quiet conversation' and....to see Holmes with a goatee! wink.gif

I really have very little preference as to which case I would go on with Holmes. One of the longer cases, maybe, so I can spend more time studying his methods. But it would have to be something that doesn't involve too much personal danger, since I'm kind of a chicken...actually, 'kind of' is an understatement. dry.gif I don't think I would really care which case it was, since I was going to be spending time working with Holmes. *stops myself from drooling all over the keyboard*

Greek Interpreter would be a good one. I'd love to watch that deduction duel between Sherlock and Mycroft. But I'd probably open my mouth in the Diogenes Club and get tossed onto the street.

I can think of a bunch I'd cross off my list: nothing with an unhappy ending like Cardboard Box or Dancing Men. Nothing in which a man is hanged (brrrr!) like Resident Patient or Stock-Broker's Clerk.

And absolutely NOT the Final Problem. I'd bawl like a baby!

P.S. Do the Admins know that the very cool Holmes drawing is not appearing at the top of the page as it should? I love that masthead!

That's an excellent choice. A treasure hunt would be lots of fun. Sign of Four would be a great adventure too. I wouldn't mind the danger. It'd be worth it to go sleuthing with the great detective. Heck, I'd take a bullet for him! I don't think he would worry over me like he did for Watson, but that wouldn't affect my resolve!! No one hurts my Sherlock!
