The picture of the entire dancing men alphabet is attached. Lets use it to talk to each other and have nobody else understand us. wink.gif

Ohhhh great idea, if moderators are up to this. Make us dancing men smilies for the forum. This is gonna be fun. I wonder why nobody ever thought of it before?

It came to me in an instant while I was discussing morse code and telegraphs on an electronics forum.

By the way is this the Canon approved version or did the creator of this make half of it up? huh.gif

It is a good idea, and I think it was brought up in another thread on the dancing men.

And I don't think people aren't interested, it's just that not many people have been on since this thread was started, I don't think.

Yup. I've checked in a couple times today and haven't seen it yet.

I think part of it was made from Canon and part of it was made up, since the messages in DANC didn't have all of the letters in them.

It would be great to use to communicate - if I could memorize what was what LOL. I'm horrible at that. My visual memory is just about the worst in the world, I think. I'd need a code-breaker by me at all times. tongue.gif What symbols would mean what, you think?

I think I have found that picture once, while I was google image searching using the keywords "dancing men" and I've seen this picture of the dancing men alphabet and I think it wasn't the only one, there was a second dancing men alphabet which I preferred because the little figures looked more like the ones in DANC. I'll post that picture here tomorrow, because I'm making this post using my iPhone, which can't copy/paste you know. If you like the other one better, you can choose which one you prefer.

I would have to carry a copy around with me, too, for a while at least. But it would be fun.

If you have the Leslie Klinger annotated Sherlock Holmes stories, the same dancing men picture you have there is in there with a footnote. Klinger explains that it is a real code that inmates in prison used. But you'de have to find it to get more details. Hope that helps.

By the way, I think those figures don't look the same to Conan Doyle's ones (mostly because they have shaped bodys, when in DANC they are stick figures), but "e" looks the same. I clearly remember Conan Doyle's "e" and it's the same as this.
